Having fun even if you're dateless at a prom
So you’ve popped the question. She said “No”. You’re looking at the prospect of having to be a wallflower at the prom, getting stuck alone in the dance floor without a partner, or worse, just sitting alone at your table. What do you do, then? Will you let that rejection define how you’ll spend the night?
The sensible answer is “No”. Proms are a chance to have fun, and no one should take that away from you. While there are some schools which do not allow people without dates to go to the prom, they’re in the minority, and you have every right to have fun as those who have dates.
Here are some ways to thumb your nose at those who have dates, and maybe make that someone who rejected you envious of the fun you’re having.
Boys’/Girls’ night out
Hire a limousine. Roll up your entourage. It’s even better if your friends don’t have dates. After all, the aim of the party is for people to have fun, so you might as well do it with people you actually like. Transform the venue into your own little singles’ club and blow the rest of the crowd away!
Dress to the nines
More often than not, if you have a date, he or she would have a say in what you wear. Not having a date is actually a chance to wear something you’d be comfortable in. Of course, this is not an excuse for wearing something dowdy to the party, but at least you can choose whatever accessories you want without having someone look up and down you with a disapproving eye. This is your chance to be the showstopper, the real life of the party, and people might actually come up to you, admiring your wardrobe.
Swing while you’re winning
Having a date means that you have to dance only with him/her, not with anyone else. Going without a date means that you’re free to look around. You may cut into a dancing couple, but do it politely to avoid offending the date. Of course, there will be others who don’t have dates for one reason or another – you may dance with them as well. The key here is to have fun with as many people as you want. Remember, act confident. People are attracted to those who exude confidence.
Have your own prom
Some people even hold their own “anti-proms” at their own homes. You have control over the music, the food, and the entertainment. You can even specify your own theme. Invite your dateless friends over, and if you have cousins or friends from other schools, you can call them over as well. Announce it on Facebook or MySpace well in advance. If it’s a success, you might even get those who do have dates to come over for an after-party.
You see, there’s no reason for you not to have fun on a prom night even if you’re going stag. After all, you only go to high school once in your life, so you better make the most out of this special night. Good luck!
