Choosing the right gift for your prom date
Since your date has done you the favor of letting you take her to the prom, you’ve just got to show your appreciation. Of course, the prospect of a wonderful night is already reason enough to go, but it’s just gentlemanly to give her something special, and by which she will remember you. It doesn’t have to be very expensive; it just has to be tasteful.
Also, if you were in charge of giveaways, you might want to consider giving something classy yet useful; there have been reports of high schools giving away beer mugs, brandy snifters and even condoms to students. However, we’d like to think that such gifts are not exactly the best ones to give to those who are just about to go off to college.
Here are some ideas for gifts for that special someone you’re planning to take to the prom:
Jewelry is forever
By jewelry, we do not mean cheap plastic costume jewelry; you must at least give her something genuine. Rhinestones are a good option. Of course, it should match the color of her gown, so you must make sure that you’ve asked about what she’s wearing in advance.
Gift my ride
If you’re a parent, you could hire a limousine to transport the young couple in style. After all, a prom comes only once in a lifetime; for sure, they will never forget stepping out into the venue from a newly-waxed, fresh-looking set of wheels. If you don’t have enough cash to hire a limo, you could lend the guy the keys to your car. Of course, the date should be someone you can trust. Otherwise, you can play dress-up and drive the car yourself.
Say it with flowers
More often than not, flowers make the dress. A tasteful bouquet or corsage will always be appreciated by a girl. Of course, you should make sure that she is not allergic to pollen; otherwise, you can give her a few antihistamine tablets so that she can make it through the night without incident. She will also be thankful for that gesture. You may call 1-800-FLOWERS for your orders, or have the local florist design a corsage for you.
Memories are not cheap.
If the school has not hired an official photographer for the prom, you may offer to hire one to record the events of the evening. Photographs are always the best way to record these moments for posterity. If the venue has rolled out a red carpet, a photographer snapping away gives a Hollywood-like feel to the prom and lends a touch of glam. You may also give a nice picture frame in which to hold the pictures after they’ve been developed. Trust me, this is one gift they’ll keep and show their future children, even if they don’t get together in the end.
You see, gifts do not have to be too expensive. All it takes is a bit of creativity. Think of what you would want to receive if you were in your shoes. After all, proms come but once.
